Very few people have even heard of Couroupita guianensis, also known as Cannon Ball Tree, and even fewer people had the chance to smell its divine fragrant flowers. However, those who experienced its luscious scent will never forget it. Click here to read more …
A bright Mediterranean fragrance celebrating the historic harvest of crisp Calabrian Citron…March 16, 2017
October, 1175, Calabria, Italy.
In Medieval Calabria, a family gathers to celebrate a good harvest. Within a cabin built of Palm leaves and other woody branches, an aromatic bounty is presented. The citrusy scent of the Etrog citron, a regional specialty, brightens the air, while bracing Myrtle and lush Date Fruit envelope the sweet warmth of the Mediterranean night.

Anima Dulcis: An Architectural JourneyMarch 18, 2013
Here in New York, it’s freezing, and currently we find particular comfort in Anima Dulcis. It has inspired us to show you some of the research work backing the fragrance.
In Mexico City’s Historic Center, the former cloister of Jesus Maria served as a Royal Convent and was one of the oldest and most expensive of its time. In the years since, it has served as a warehouse, cinema and appliance store. In 2003 it was closed off due to a state of disrepair. The National Coordination for Historic Monuments is looking for new tenants to rehabilitate it to its former glory.
ARQUISTE & CIRE TRVDON introduce Merida candle!February 25, 2013
ARQUISTE has been commissioned to create a new scent for the prestigious Cire Trudon candle line, marking the first time the legendary French line has partnered with another brand to create a scent for one of its candles. To celebrate this esteemed Franco-Mexican collaboration, Arquiste has chosen to recreate the balmy night described by Empress Charlotte, centering on the exuberant, multi-layered fragrance of the guava tree. Succulent ripe fruit, intoxicating blossoms, foliage and bark are enveloped by elegant woody notes of mahogany and “palo primavera,” with just a hint of firework gunpowder, for an altogether intriguing, sumptuous scent.
November 1865, Merida, Mexico
Bursting fireworks illuminate the night sky of old Merida, welcoming Empress Carlota of Mexico. Before immersing herself in the welcoming festivities, she lingers in the courtyard of the impressive quinta where she is staying. There, a guava tree, heavy with ripe fruit, sweetens the velvety aroma of the tropical woods, enhancing the charms of the balmy night. Savoring this moment of sweet serenity, Carlota picks up her pen and writes to her beloved Maximilian: “Tesoro entrañablemente amado…”
About Cire Trudon: Founded in 1643, on the eve of Louis XIV’s reign, Cire Trudon is the world’s oldest candle manufacturer. During the eighteenth century, the company became the Manufacture Royale de Cire (Royal Wax Manufacturer). Cire Trudon has created a unique natural wax blend, which guarantees a clean burn and a unique olfactory experience.

ARQUISTE at Pitti Fragranze 10 – Florence, ItalyOctober 2, 2012
This September, ARQUISTE travelled to Florence for its debut appearance at Pitti Fragranze 10, the international reference point for artistic perfumery and olfactory culture. The three-day long event was attended by 2,730 visitors with a total of 213 international brands being showcased.
In the architecturally re-imagined Stazione Leopolda – a 19th century train-station turned cultural space – ARQUISTE introduced its scent collection to the homeland of orris root. For our founder, Carlos Huber, this journey was much more than an entrepreneurial benchmark; it was also an inspirational endeavor for olfactory preservation. During the event, ARQUISTE was featured at Ermano Picco’s Scendiary as one of Pitti’s best discoveries, as well as in Extrait’s Alfabeto di Pitti Fragranze.

An excerpt from “What is Lost” by Mahmoud DarwishApril 3, 2012
- The following is a recollection from Mahmoud Darwish, translated by Sinan Antoon, which appears in PEN America 15: Maps and is excerpted from “In the Presence of Absence”. We are grateful to our friend Claudette Bakhtiar Ericson for sharing:
“Cities are smells: Acre is the smell of iodine and spices. Haifa is the smell of pine and wrinkled sheets. Moscow is the smell of vodka on ice. Cairo is the smell of mango and ginger. Beirut is the smell of the sun, sea, smoke, and lemons. Paris is the smell of fresh bread, cheese, and derivations of enchantment. Damascus is the smell of jasmine and dried fruit. Tunis is the smell of night musk and salt. Rabat is the smell of henna, incense, and honey. A city that cannot be known by its smell is unreliable. Exiles have a shared smell: the smell of longing for something else; a smell that resembles another smell. A panting, nostalgic smell that guides you, like a worn tourist map, to the smell of the original place. A smell is a memory and a setting sun. Sunset, here, is beauty rebuking the stranger.”

On scented accessories: The BoutonnièreMarch 10, 2012
Men have certain grooming and dressing traditions that go back ages. One of these is the story of the “buttonhole flower” or boutonnière. Their use probably originates from their attachment to a symbolic, honorific or even religious meaning. However, they quickly became appreciated for their decorative and olfactive qualities.
* A man would select a fresh boutonnière in much the same way he would wear a freshly laundered shirt or a pair of polished shoes. Its glory lay in its fragility; it was picked, worn in the buttonhole and allowed to die.
* When women danced or embraced their partners, the perfume of the boutonnière was meant to surprise and amuse them.
*The story of the boutonnière also includes its discreet rivalry with honorific and military decorations; a lapel flower hints that its wearer is possessed of a keen imagination and elevated sensitivity.
* Flowers all had a specific time and place for use; for example, the Gardenia become known as the “Opera Flower” for its use in black-tie attire.
ARQUISTE + CITRINE by The StonesFebruary 14, 2012
To celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, ARQUISTE and CITRINE by The Stones decided to pair perfume and jewelry and create a beautiful limited bottle collection. The partnership was a natural fit, given that Joanne and Michelle Stone, the sisters behind the CITRINE by The Stones jewelry line, share an aesthetic vision that is rooted in the past, yet also very forward looking.
The precious pieces were presented at The Webster Miami on February 9th. The event was hosted by design expert Nate Berkus and Miami trendsetter Lisa Heiden-Koffler.

“O reader have you ever breathed,
With drunkenness and greed’s faiblesse,
The incense from a church recess,
Sachets of chronic musk unsheathed?
O deepest magic charm’s sweet thrall
In present or in past restored!
As lovers place on their adored
Mnemonic petals of their fall.”
…from Baudelaire’s Fleurs Du Mal
